What You’ll Experience
Day 1: Bucharest to Brasov
We depart Bucharest in the morning and head through the Prahova Valley toward Transylvania. Our first destination is the Libearty Bear Sanctuary near Zarnesti — a 69-hectare oak forest that is home to over 100 rescued brown bears. These bears were saved from captivity — many were kept in cages at restaurants or gas stations — and now live freely in their natural habitat. Your guide will share their stories as you watch them play, fish, and roam through the forest.
After the sanctuary, we drive toward Brasov through the narrow Rucar-Bran corridor, where the road winds between limestone cliffs and green pastures dotted with traditional haystacks. We continue to Brasov, one of Romania’s most beautiful medieval cities. Founded by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century, Brasov still retains its Saxon character with its imposing city walls, watchtowers, and the famous Black Church — the largest Gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul. In the evening, we’ll recommend our favourite restaurants where you can try traditional Transylvanian dishes like sarmale (cabbage rolls), bulz (polenta with cheese), and local craft beer.
Day 2: Brasov & Return
After breakfast, explore more of Brasov at your own pace or join your guide for a visit to one of the nearby Saxon fortified churches — UNESCO World Heritage treasures that tell the story of the medieval Transylvanian Saxons. In the afternoon, we drive back to Bucharest, stopping for a scenic break along the way.
