What You’ll Experience

Your day begins with an early morning pickup from your Bucharest hotel. As we drive north through the scenic Prahova Valley, the flat plains gradually give way to forested foothills and the towering peaks of the Southern Carpathians.

Our first stop is Peles Castle in Sinaia, often called the most beautiful castle in Eastern Europe. Built by King Carol I in the late 19th century, Peles is a masterpiece of Neo-Renaissance architecture with 160 intricately decorated rooms, Murano crystal chandeliers, Cordoba leather walls, and hand-painted ceilings. It was also one of the first castles in Europe to have electricity, central heating, and an elevator — all installed before 1900. Your guide will share the fascinating story of the king who fell in love with these mountains and built his dream retreat here.

After exploring Peles, we continue to the nearby Sinaia Monastery, a serene 17th-century complex that gave the town its name, inspired by Mount Sinai. Step inside the old church to see the original frescoes, remarkably well preserved, and breathe in the scent of old wood and beeswax candles that fills the courtyard. Then we head to Bran Castle, perched dramatically on a rocky bluff. While tourist marketing calls it “Dracula’s Castle,” the real history is far more interesting — this was Queen Marie’s beloved summer residence, and your guide will separate the Dracula myth from the true story of Romania’s most charismatic queen.
